New regulations limit use of criminal history in hiring decisions

Many employers are choosing to hire third parties to conduct background checks on applicants who have been offered employment. In addition, depending on the nature of the position and essential job functions, employers are requesting reports about an applicant's driving and criminal record.

RDA practical examination suspended, licensure will continue

The Dental Board of California met April 6 and accepted a report recommendation from the Office of Professional Examination Services (OPES) to suspend the RDA practical examination. The report cited several areas where the examination did not meet critical psychometric standards including inconsistencies in different test-site locations and poor calibration of examiners.

Significant rate increases anticipated for hundreds of proceduresm

As California’s new fiscal year starts, dentists can expect significant reimbursement increases for hundreds of procedures covered by Denti-Cal because of the passage of CDA-sponsored and supported Proposition 56, the tobacco tax measure. With anticipated federal participation, it is expected that an estimated $300 million in additional funding will be committed to increasing coverage for dental care in the program.>

X-ray machine registration and other fees to increase Sept. 1

Radiologic Health Branch fees are due to increase 26.76 percent Sept. 1, 2017, under the Budget Act of 2016, Chapter 23, in accordance with California Health and Safety Code section 100425.
